More new pictures…

In the spirit of renewal, we would like to bring yet more new lovelies to your attention. Did you spot the wonderful piece by César Domela that has just gone up on the wall? This signed and numbered lithograph and silk screenprint is from a rare and important portfolio called Abstraction Creation Art Non Figuratif, created in 1973 to celebrate the French art movement, Abstraction, Création. read more…

More new pots…

We have also added new work to our selection of pots by the amazing Phil Rogers. Now approaching his 40th year as a working potter, Rogers’ way with clay has remained the same: a constant desire to explore shape, orchestration, decoration and finish. “Working on new forms, trying to achieve a certain ‘rightness’ and crispness of line, is what keeps me interested in clay. Making pots over a long career is about refinement and a never-ending quest to improve. The cliché is always that ‘the next firing will be my best’ – but it remains true that this is every potter’s hope.”read more…

Our first exhibition of the year is approaching – the date is yet to be finalised but we are delighted that it will be a show of work by Eduardo Paolozzi.  The Whitechapel gallery recently opened an exhibition of work by this excellent artist so we are excited to be able to offer you the opportunity to own one or more pieces yourselves. read more…

Michael Rothenstein – from 12 November

We are also gearing ourselves up for the next and final dedicated exhibition of the year which will be work by Michael Rothenstein. Keep an eye on the website because work will gradually start to appear there in anticipation of the show.  Rothenstein, as stated by Tessa Sidey in The Prints of Michael Rothenstein, “was born into a celebrated artistic family in 1908. His father William Rothenstein was a painter, draughtsman and lithographer and distinguished Principal of the Royal College of Art”. Read our extended profile of Rothenstein, an artist who is considered to be one of the most exciting British printmakers of the 20th century. read more…

Henri Matisse: Original Prints

September 17 sees the opening day of our Matisse exhibition. We are very excited to be bringing you such a wonderful variety of pieces by this giant of the 20th century art world. We have mailed out our catalogue to everyone for whom we have a postal address and it is also available to view online on the exhibition page of the new website as well as spare copies available to pick up when you visit. read more…

September Artist in Focus – Jenny Grevatte

This month we have chosen Jenny Grevatte as our Artist on Focus. It seems apposite to do so considering that she lists amongst her influences Henri Matisse. It is interesting to consider her mixed media approach to working alongside that of the later collage work or scissor paintings by Matisse. Texture and effect feature large for both.

September Featured potter

Jim Malone will be our featured potter of the month for September and we have refreshed our stock in anticipation. Check out his page in the pot stock room online so that you can see what we have and then drop by for a closer inspection. Jim Malone Stock Room

Dates for the diary

November will mark the final exhibition of the year and we are really looking forward to introducing you to the range and breadth of work by British artist Michael Rothenstein. For once we can actually say that we will be showing a local artist because Rothenstein was born in Hampstead on 19 March 1908. Numerous major galleries currently hold his work and he was made Hon. RE and elected RA in 1983 so watch this space and the website for more information to come.
