Issue 2

Welcome to the second newsletter from Sylvester Fine Art.

Recent Arrivals – Four new Piza’s and a John Hoyland

We have four (three pictured) beautiful new etchings in by the artist, Arthur Luis Piza. Born in Brazil in 1928, Piza first studied in Sao Paolo before moving to Paris where he studied under the master of colour etching, Johnny Friedlaender. Piza soon became an expert in all etching techniques but developed some new methods of his own in a bid to make his work more sculptural and three dimensional. Prices range from £750 to £1,000 each.

In addition to the Pizas, we have a lovely piece by John Hoyland, priced at £695. Entitled Snowbird, this print dates to 1999 and is signed and numbered by the artist (number 22/100). The lovely deep blue, with its vibrant pops and splashes of colour are joyous.

Do drop in and see the Pizas – photographs cannot do justice to the textural content of these striking etchings – as well as the Hoyland and all the other new goodies that continue to adorn our walls and fill our stock room.

Phil Rogers – a potter of note

This month’s pot showcase features the work of renowned potter, Phil Rogers. Hailed as a ‘potter of our time’ by Sebastian Blackie, Rogers’ work can be described as in the anglo-oriental way of potting. Rogers’ pots inspire ceramic artists and collectors around the world so we feel privileged to be able to bring you a selection from his substantial canon of work. Come in, pick up his pots and feel their fine generosity of weight. Prices start from £75.
