Zdzislaw Ruszkowski 1907-1991
Zdzislaw Ruszkowski was born in 1907 in eastern Poland and was the son of an art teacher. He studied art in Krakow and then like many Polish artists, went to Paris where he lived for four years until he joined the Polish army in 1939. During World War II he moved to Scotland with the Polish Army before settling in North London in the 1944 with his English wife.
Ruszkowski was an abstract painter who exhibited widely and had many successful shows with both Roland Browse and Delbanco. He was a prolific artist who worked across many mediums and is, perhaps, one of the best recorded of the Polish artists who settled here in the UK.
